The ever-injured Jack Wilshere has suffered yet another setback with his ongoing ankle problem, which could sideline him for the rest of the season according to The Sun. However, his issues will be music to the ears of a fellow Hammer who used to be kept out of the side by the England international.
What’s the word, then?
Wilshere started the first four games of the Premier League season for West Ham having signed in the summer after leaving Arsenal, and was on the losing side in each of them as Pellegrini struggled to get his side going.
The 26-year-old has not made a single start since the 1-0 loss to Wolves in September as he again struggles to keep fit. In his absence, however, forgotten man Robert Snodgrass, who looked to have no future at the club, has stepped up to the plate and has been in fine form for the east Londoners.
31-year-old Snodgrass has two goals and three assists in his last four Premier League outings as the Hammers have also embarked on a four-game winning run; he is having a great time at the London Stadium, and Wilshere’s injury is great news for him in terms of the amount of game time he will get.
Why is it great news?
Wilshere had previously been keeping Snodgrass out of the West Ham line-up at the start of the season, and there were rumours that the midfielder would be fit for the recent game against Cardiff which resulted in talk of who should start.
The Scottish international has been treated horrendously at times since arriving at the club from Hull, including being publicly embarrassed by co-owner David Sullivan, who said that his kids ‘begged him’ not to sign Snodgrass.
The former Leeds and Aston Villa midfielder has been a model professional in his response as he has emerged as a key man in Pellegrini’s side, and with Wilshere not looking likely to return anytime soon, he looks to have his place in the team nailed down.
