At the moment there’s only one name on the lips of Newcastle fans who take a vested interest in the club’s youth sides – Elias Sorensen.
Acquired from HB Koge in 2016, the promising forward endured a difficult start to life on Tyneside but has been in explosive form this season, bagging eleven goals including a hat-trick against Aston Villa on Monday night.
That’s a far cry from the output of Rafa Benitez’s senior personnel. With six goals in total only two Premier League clubs have scored less than the Magpies in the top flight so far this season. Joselu is surprising the only member of the squad to net more than once and summer signing Yoshinori Muto, who lead the line last time out against Brighton, is the only other forward to hit the onion bag in the Premier League this season.
Newcastle have a huge game on the horizon this weekend, travelling all the way down to the south coast to face Southampton in what already feels like a very early relegation clash. So, should Benitez bring an element of surprise to the encounter by starting Sorensen, or keep his faith in more experienced alternatives?
