Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has played down speculation Charlie Adam is angry over his failure to secure a transfer away from Bloomfield Road.
Adam’s manager Kenny Moyes, brother of Everton manager David, has said the midfielder was hurt his transfer request was ignored by Holloway, but insisted the 24-year-old would not let his lofty standards slip.
“It has been a major stress for Charlie, a real emotional rollercoaster,” Moyes told the Liverpool Echo.
“As well as being angry he feels gutted and badly let down as the only player to put in a transfer request and have it ignored.”
“Luckily, coming from Rangers, he is bullet-proof, and I can promise you that you won’t see any difference in his level of performance.”
“He will be as committed and passionate as ever.”
Holloway, meanwhile, claimed Adam’s discontent had been blown out of proportion and said he would not stand in the way of a big-money move for the Scot down the track.
“It’s just nonsense. The whole thing is just sharks swimming trying to bite pieces off my players and you know at the end of the day Charlie will get what he deserves,” Holloway said.
“He’s still only 24, 25. But this is his first season in this division.”
“I mean look at Wilson Palacios. He had one season with Wigan then he went for 12-14 million and the club couldn’t stand in his way.”
“Charlie’s just got one year left next summer. It’s just an example of how I believe the player is good – how I believe one of the top four or five will want him and I believe I’ll be right.”
For now Holloway has more pressing concerns ahead of Saturday’s trip to Goodison Park to play Everton, and with his side losing six of their past seven English Premier League games, a win is vital.
“History will tell you you don’t want to get on one of those runs where you don’t win for 18 games. And we’ve already lost four in a row,” Holloway said.
“I think we’ve lost six out of seven or seven out of eight but let’s look at the points we’ve got.”
“Let’s look at where we have won and let’s go again. Every game’s a cup final for us. It’s fantastic and we need to keep our energy.”
