Barcelona announced this weekend on their official website that they had exercised the right to buy-back Gerard Deulofeu from Everton. The club say that while they’ve still to confirm the terms of the deal but that his contract will run until 2019.
The BBC report that the fee is £10.6m, more than double the amount Everton paid for him to move on a permanent basis to Goodison Park in 2015.
That’s good business for the Toffees given that Deulofeu had fallen out of favour under Ronald Koeman, making just 13 appearances last season before moving on loan to AC Milan.
While there’s never been a question about his talent at Everton, he’s never quite shown the consistency required to be a stand-out in the English Premier League.
Nonetheless he remains a popular figure with fans who enjoyed his flashes of brilliance and has ability to skilfully go past defenders.
Supporters took to Twitter to share their sadness that he’s on his way, although some do realise it was probably the best thing for all parties…
