Speaking in a football.london Q&A, reliable Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has made a Lilywhites claim involving Real Madrid playmaker Isco and other soon-to-be 2022 free agents.
The Lowdown: Paratici eyeing ‘quality players at zero cost’?
Spurs transfer chief Fabio Paratici has been touted with many potential Bosman moves later this year as the Italian reportedly eyes ‘quality players at zero cost’ for manager Antonio Conte.

AC Milan’s Franck Kessie and Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard are among the big names mentioned as Tottenham targets as the club aim to operate within their means and sparingly use chairman Daniel Levy’s transfer budget.
Sharing out-of-contract players who may come onto Paratici’s radar later this year, as well as the usual suspects, Gold says there are a few others who could well be looked at – including Isco.
The Latest: Gold makes Isco claim…
Making a claim, Gold believes Real’s attacker may well ‘catch Spurs’ eye’ alongside one of Conte’s former players in winger Ivan Perisic, among others.
When asked about possible 2022 free agents Spurs could move for, as well as the likes of Lingard and Kessie, the football.london reporter replied:
“If Paulo Dybala cannot agree a new deal at Juventus, Spurs would certainly be interested but again so will many others.
“There could be others out there such as Isco and Conte’s former Inter Milan player Ivan Perisic, who might catch Spurs’ eye, while another former Conte man in Marcelo Brozovic is expected to extend his stay at Inter.
“Perhaps someone like Divock Origi might catch the eye as another striker, although he would likely want to go somewhere to be first choice if he does leave Liverpool.”
The Verdict: Go for it?
As Paratici aims to reinforce Conte’s options for his first full campaign as Spurs boss next season, the summer window could be huge, especially going by the ex-Chelsea manager’s January transfer comments in an interview with Sky Italy.
He stated that, on paper and numerically, Spurs had technically weakened with four departures and just two arrivals coming through the door at Hotspur Way last month.
Bearing this in mind, the Lilywhites will be looking to make amends for Conte later this year, but should Isco be targeted?
Once valued at £100 million by the Galacticos, the 29-year-old was also once one of the most promising playmakers in world football, but his age and potentially high salary could now be deterrents.
Isco is rumoured to be on around £210,000-per-week at the Bernabeu and it remains to be seen whether he would take a pay cut in order to seal a Premier League move.
